A widowed woman who lived on the island in Lake Crawford after her husband was buried there.[1] She may have started a relationship with lighthouse keeper Antoine and become involved with a cult. She was somehow still somewhat alive when Arthur and John arrived on the island, until she was killed by Arthur.[2]

At the time of Arthur and John coming to the island, she appears as an ancient woman with sagging skin.[2]
History[]
Many years before Arthur and John came to the island, the widow’s husband was buried on the island, and she chose to stay on the island to be with him even in death. Some claim she stayed with the lighthouse keeper of the time, which is supported by the information revealed about their potential romantic relationship, whereas others claim she refused his help. She brought black stones from the lake and used them to build her house. The lighthouse keeper of the time Arthur and John visited the island claimed that she was not alone.[1]
The widow drew and painted, some of her paintings were upstairs in her house, whereas others, including her drawings, were downstairs in the caves. Some were of herself, some were of the lighthouse keeper in a manner that suggests they were romantic partners, and over time they became rough sketches of the cave, until becoming no longer discernible. John theorizes that she was manipulated by Antoine into joining the cult via the promise of her husband being brought back to life.[2]
When the lighthouse wick goes out in Part Eight, the widow is released as a monstrous shadow of her former self, appearing as an ancient woman with sagging skin.
